During my early 20’s, I was fortunate enough to be exposed to yoga and meditation. Until now I never really understood Chakras and to be honest never really read up about it (I lie, I did encounter it in fitness and spirituality shows and vaguely read up about it...), but whilst on this meditation journey, I came across seven vivid colours which align along the central line of the body.
During my yoga teacher training we were taught what it did, it’s purpose and why. After my first but brief Chakra meditation session, I came across seven vivid colours that parallel the central line of the body, and this is when I opened my heart and mind to Chakras.
Chakra originates from Sanskrit which means “wheel”. This refers to the spinning wheels of energy, throughout our body interacting with various physiological and neurological systems located in the midline of the body. There are seven main chakra centres - starting from the base to the crown of the head. Each has an attachment to separate body areas - including the glands and major organs, they are doorways to our mental, emotional, physical and spiritual state of being. Although each Chakra has a purpose, they must work together to create harmony and balance in the body.
Imagine spinning wheels (our Chakras) working continuously together, this movement allows the energy to continuously move, in order for this to happen each of the seven Chakras to remain fluid, aligned and open. If one is blocked or an imbalance occurs, having awareness can help bring the imbalance back into balance. An example of this is if you had a sore throat and lost your voice, this would affect the throat Chakra. Not only does it affect your physical health but is also connected to your emotional and mental health - feelings of being run-down, not being able to perform to your best ability are ways to observe if a Chakra is misaligned or out of balance.
I will be exploring the seven Chakras in more detail. The colours, sounds, senses, primary functions, emotional connections and meditations to re-align all Chakras. Bringing harmony and awareness to the state of being.
